Is this the best gumbo between Fort Worth and Dallas? Crazee Crab loads it up

It’s never too early to start Mardi Gras-style dining.

Far from Louisiana, on the west side of Grand Prairie, there’s a crab restaurant with a credible bowl of shrimp and crab gumbo.

Unlike some boring crab restaurants that are mostly loud bars, Crazee Crab, 5244 Texas 360, has built a good reputation in the Texas 360 corridor, and I see why.

The shrimp gumbo is some of the best between Fort Worth and Dallas.

It’s full of shrimp, blue crab, snow crab and king crab, plus andouille sausage.

At lunch, it’s $8.99 with a salad or $10.99 with a po-boy, a bargain. Or a generous cup is $5.99.

Crazee Crab also has a full seafood menu if you’re not digging into the crab or shrimp boils.

The grilled menu leads with a grilled sea bass with rice and spinach ($22.99). There’s also a blackened redfish with Tito’s vodka sauce ($19.99), blackened or grilled salmon and various shrimp dishes.

The blackened chicken, pork chop-with-red beans and etouffees are $12-$16, all large potions.

Other lunch specials include $7-$11 fried baskets and $10 shrimp creole or shrimp-and-grits.

Crazee Crab is open for lunch and dinner daily; Texas 360 south of Camp Wisdom Road, 972-641-8866. facebook.com/crazeecrab.

(Yes, Red Claws Crab Shack is still the ranking restaurant in this category: 4629 S. Cooper St., 817-642-5431, redclawscrabshack.com.)
