A long-awaited new location of Theresa’s Dixie House Cafe opened this week, and diners immediately packed the house Monday morning.

The newest location of the old-time home-cooking cafes is at 8120 Rendon Bloodworth Road (Farm Road 1187, or the western extension of West Debbie Lane west of Mansfield).

The restaurant’s opening was delayed several months due to construction hangups. A main dining room and events room opened this week in what had been a sprawling barbecue restaurant.

It’s the fifth Dixie House and will become the flagship for the Simon family. They live in nearby Rendon.

Dixie House is known for its $5.99 chicken-fried steak or chicken-fried chicken special Wednesdays.

It also serves a choice of about 10-12 cream and meringue pies and five cakes daily, including an apple pie with icing, a coconut meringue pie the Star-Telegram once ranked the area’s best, and a “heavenly cake.”

Next for the ever-evolving Simon restaurants: a remodeling at the Saginaw location.

Dixie House’s four locations in Fort Worth, Saginaw and Mansfield are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily; 682-518-1160, dixiehousecafes.com.
