Texas can’t get enough Hurtado Barbecue: Here’s when the new restaurant will open
Front Street phenomenon Hurtado Barbecue has set an opening date for a new restaurant.
If all goes well, Brandon Hurtado’s “Texas Twinkies” will be served beginning Feb. 8 inside a new restaurant and beer garden at 205 E. Front St. in downtown Arlington.
If you haven’t tried a Texas Twinkie, Arlington loves them as much as Fort Worth loves bacon “burnt ends.”
It’s a bacon-wrapped jalapeno stuffed with brisket and pimiento-cheddar, with a barbecue-sauce glaze.
They’ve become the signature for a barbecue stand that started as a pop-up at breweries, then expanded to a vacant lot and now takes the place of a longtime bar built in 1900 as a retail shop.
Hurtado, a marketing executive, is living every barbecue lover’s dream. He thought his barbecue might be good enough to sell, so he gave it a try.
In the middle of light snow flurries Saturday, Hurtado had a line for barbecue.
Along with Zavala’s in Grand Prairie, they have dominated small-batch craft barbecue in the cities between Dallas and Fort Worth.
The new Hurtado will have limited seating inside but a large beer garden.
It’s in the growing Urban Union district north of downtown near Tipsy Oak and a new Cane Rosso pizzeria.
It’s a mile from AT&T Stadium, a mile and a half from the new Globe Life Field.
