Ways to ring in 2020: a dessert bar, or a balcony view of the clock striking midnight

Don’t overspend on a New Year’s special

Hey, Bud! Is there an interesting New Year’s Eve special?

—Andy, Fort Worth

I see a lot of overpriced “specials.” I’d rather go to a restaurant that sticks to regular prices, like B&B Butchers. Hey — I see Eddie V’s is offering a special dessert bar. (If you want someplace calm for a late dinner, Bird Cafe and Del Frisco’s Grille take late reservations. Del’s has a $49 special. The upper level has a view of the Sundance Plaza clock.)

El Bolero for upscale Tex-Mex, Los Asaderos for the basics

Hey, Bud! My son’s here and he cannot find good Tex-Mex or Mexican food in LA. Can you steer us?

—Mike, Fort Worth

Hey, Bud! I swear I saw a post about somewhere new to try for Tex-Mex.

—Natalie, Arlington

I think El Bolero Cocina Mexicana, 2933 Crockett St., is the best new-wave in Tex-Mex and can match any restaurant for seafood. The newest Tex-Mex hangout is Blue Goose Cantina, 1612 S. University Drive. My favorites for basic Tex-Mex are (1) Los Asaderos, 1535 N. Main St.; (2) El Paseo, 5436 Jacksboro Highway, and (3) La Playa Maya, three locations.
