American Revelry restaurant opens in new shops in Burleson

A chef-driven restaurant with craft cocktails opened this week in — yes — Burleson.

No, not in Old Town. The new American Revelry grill and bar is at 279 W. Hidden Creek Parkway, about 1 mile west of Interstate 35W.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to see a chef like Eric O’Connor or specials like whitefish Oscar or shrimp with smoky cheddar grits in suburban Burleson. But they’re in a new development called The Standard.

“We did our research,” O’Connor said.

“This street is a major cut-through for traffic, and there’s tremendous growth in Johnson County. We feel like we’re bringing Burleson the kind of place people have wanted so they don’t have to drive to Fort Worth.”

The new restaurant backs up to Village Creek and a large greenspace. That makes the setting for the dining room and heated patio vaguely similar to Press Cafe in Fort Worth.

The lunch menu includes salads, sandwiches and burgers, and there’s an evening menu with a 10-ounce brined pork chop, blackened sea bass or a half-chicken in Alabama “white” barbecue sauce.

O’Connor was known for shrimp-and-grits when he was the chef at Winslow’s Wine Cafe. He was also at HG Sply Co.

At American Revelry, he’s added a monthly “regional favorite” menu from other states. This month it’s New York, which explains the whitefish Oscar and obvious references such as a New York strip and fried New York cheesecake.

The signature citrus-arugula salad has grapefruit, mandarin orange & blood orange, pomegranate seeds, quinoa, avocado, pepitas, toasted almonds and shaved Cafetero cheese, with a grapefruit-white-balsamic vinaigrette.

At dessert, there’s a brûléed banana split with vanilla bean ice cream on top of brûléed bananas with strawberry, pineapple and chocolate sauces.

American Revelry also has a separate room for luncheons, presentations or event dinners.

“Burleson and really Johnson County haven’t had any kind of step-up dining, with a scratch menu,” he said.

“This will be something different.”

It’s open for lunch or weekend brunch and dinner daily; 817-484-6553, americanrevelry.com.
