It’s been Fort Worth’s top Italian restaurant for decades, but it’s closing this month

La Piazza, for three decades the city’s most exclusive Italian restaurant and the only one requiring a dress code, will close at the end of December, owner Vito Ciraci said Wednesday.

“It is with mixed emotions [that] my daughters and I have made this very difficult decision,” Ciraci wrote by email. “Our family has been so incredibly fortunate to have been able to run a small family restaurant in Fort Worth for so many years.”

Ciraci added: “It is time for me to relax.”

As discreet as ever, Ciraci said the restaurant hoped to tell customers personally instead of making a formal announcement.

La Piazza opened in the Chicotsky Center on West Seventh Street, then moved to University Park Village and finally to Bledsoe Street near the West 7th shops.

It continues serving dinner nightly except Sundays through December.
