What foodies call the ‘best cheesesteak in Fort Worth’ gets a brick and mortar
When Philly native Davonte Fung moved to Texas for his business consulting job, he noticed “the beef state don’t have any cheesesteaks.”
So he started Vonte’s Philly Cheesesteaks out of a food trailer in front of The Local Pub at 2800 Bledsoe St. About a year-and-a-half later, he’s opening his first brick and mortar into the lower level of Wabi House at 1229 8th Ave.
All Philly cheesesteaks are made with thinly-shaved ribeye and Amoroso rolls, which are ordered from Philadelphia. These rolls are from the Philadelphia-based Amoroso’s Baking Company and are the traditional option for a Philly cheesesteak or hoagie sandwich.
Foodies like Trey’s Chow Down rave about Fung’s cheesesteak eggrolls which are packed with shaved ribeye and cheese, fried in an eggroll wrapper and dipped in more cheese whiz. Fort Worth Founded calls Vonte’s cheesesteaks “the best cheesesteak in Fort Worth.”
The food trailer will stay put in West 7th as a light night spot. But as for the new brick and mortar, here’s what you should know.
What’s on the menu at Vonte’s Philly Cheesesteaks?
Fung told the Star-Telegram that the new location on 8th Avenue will serve his classic Philly cheesesteaks and eggrolls, and eventually pizza.
They only sell two cheesesteaks (unless you decide to build your own) – the Broad Street Philly and Vonte’s Favorite.
The Broad Street is served with thinly shaved ribeye, grilled onions, mushrooms and hot peppers, melty American cheese and cheese whiz on the 12-inch Amaroso roll.
Vonte’s Favorite is, of course, the thinly shaved ribeye, but also mayo, ketchup, onions, hot peppers, American cheese and cheese whiz on the famous roll.
Once they get their bearings, pizzas will join the menu. Well, Fung says pizza egg rolls will probably come first.
Sides include fries, which can be ordered regular or topped with cheese or steak. The egg rolls come for $3.75 a pop or in combos.

Fung plans to also keep his food truck for those late night guests in the West 7th area. The trailer is located at 2800 Bledsoe St., outside The Local Bar and will be open from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The new brick-and-mortar location is officially open for dine-in and takeout customers. The space at 1229 8th Ave. has multiple TV’s, plenty of dining tables and will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except Sunday.
