Dallas steakhouse known for home-cooking and Tex-Mex to open in Arlington
A Dallas County steakhouse known for Tex-Mex, barbecue and live music will open a third location in Arlington.
Culpepper Cattle Co. started as Culpepper Steakhouse in 1982 in Rockwall, selling home-cooked meals and barbecue as live music played on the Culpepper Stage.
In 1993, Dallas restaurateur Bob Clements bought Culpepper’s and turned it into a steakhouse for the following 30 years.
The Rockwall restaurant was at risk of closing at the end of 2022 until the UNCO restaurant group, which also operates HG Sply, bought the brand and revived it in 2023. Another Culpepper’s Cattle Co. opened in Dallas the following year.
The current menu combines the two former versions of the steakhouse to make a new spot with ‘80s homestyle cooking, Clement’s fine steaks and cocktails and UNCO’s added touch of Tex-Mex and margaritas.
Now, a new $1.5 million Culpepper Cattle Co. restaurant will open in Arlington.
Culpepper Cattle Co. Arlington menu
Culpepper Arlington’s creative director Charmi Patel-Peña told the Star-Telegram that the Arlington location will have the same menu as the current Culpepper locations.
The menu offers starters of queso, nachos and fried green tomatoes. For more casual bites, they have burgers, chicken sandwiches and lunch specials capped at $19.
For entrées, customers can choose from Tex-Mex favorites like enchiladas and fajitas. Steak choices range from $30 to $160. And lastly, to pay homage to the original Culpepper’s location, the home-cooking includes chicken fried steak and pork chops.
Some menu favorites include chicken fried steak with potatoes and gravy, cheese enchiladas and double-bone pork chop with steak butter.
Culpepper Cattle Co. opening in Arlington
The $1.5 million Culpepper Cattle Co. will open in early 2027 at 2300 East Lamar Blvd. in Arlington.
This vacant lot was home to an old location of The Trail Dust Steak House and then after, The Rock Wood Fired Kitchen. Saltgrass Steakhouse will be two doors down, and Mercury Chophouse is across the street.
According to state licensing documents, this project will be built from the ground-up with plans for a 10,000 square-foot single story building.
Patel-Peña said they are unsure about a live music stage since the restaurant is so early in the construction process. However, she said plans are similar to the Dallas venue where there is no designated stage, but they will still find a way to host live music.
Construction is expected to begin in July 2026.
