New brunch spot in Grapevine adds buttery flavors to a classic American menu
Grapevine is no stranger to brunch spots, but a new restaurant in town brings a unique touch by using butter as a signature ingredient.
Butter My Brunch, located at 919 E. Northwest Highway, opened Feb. 2 after a delay due to the winter ice storm in January. It’s a family-operated restaurant run by father Krenar Kista and son Eldin Kista.
The duo isn’t new to the restaurant business — they also own Siena Cafe in Irving, a classic breakfast restaurant that has been open for over a decade.
Butter My Brunch serves classics like omelets, eggs benedict, steakhouse skillets, crispy chicken and waffles, pancakes, Belgium waffles and Tex-Mex dishes.
Kista said they also serve specialty drinks like the “Butter my Brunch Punch,” which is a mixture of juices and rum.
Their sweet and savory butter flavors include strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, cinnamon honey, onion and herb.
“We use butter as a way to add flavor without over complicating stuff,” Eldin Kista told the Star-Telegram.
Kista said more butter flavors are in the works.
“What we do with the menu is we try to keep it American, keep it casual, nothing you haven’t seen before,” Kista said. “But we want to elevate it with a unique touch.”
He said since they opened, the made-from-scratch biscuits and eggs have been a fan favorite.
I ordered the steak and eggs for $20, which is an 8-ounce steak with house-made garlic herb butter, two eggs, breakfast potatoes and pancakes. With my pancake, I got the strawberry butter to get a taste of both the savory and sweet butter options.
The steak was well seasoned and cooked perfectly to my liking, the potatoes and eggs were also cooked nicely, and the pancakes were light. The strawberry butter added a flavorful touch along with the whipped cream and maple syrup.
The restaurant also has a lunch menu with bistro rolls, salads, burgers, toasties and sandwiches. A kid’s menu includes pancakes, chicken tenders, grilled cheese and eggs and meat.
Kista said their journey into the restaurant business was paved by his grandfather, who started out in kitchens, worked his way up to chef and opened a restaurant in the Coney Island district of Detroit. He was known for adding butter to his dishes.
“When making the menu, we kind of took that inspiration and applied it to the menu,” Kista said. “We came up with the butters, and some of the dishes are in remembrance of him and what he’s come up with in the past.”
Kista said he wants customers to feel welcome and comfortable at the restaurant regardless of what day of the week it is or how busy the restaurant gets.
Butter My Brunch is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
