Part of Stockyards bar temporarily closed during Fort Worth health inspections

Editor’s note: This article has been updated with a response from Billy Bob’s Texas.

A bar station at Billy Bob’s Texas, known as the world’s largest honky tonk, was temporarily closed for water issues during a recent Fort Worth health inspection, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Fort Worth uses a demerit system, with zero being a perfect score. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to fix the worst violations immediately and clean up the rest within 48 hours. Here are the results for the round of inspections conducted between Jan. 11-24.

Billy Bob’s Texas, located at 2520 Rodeo Plaza inside the Fort Worth Stockyards, scored 4 demerits on Jan. 15. The inspector found black organic matter in the ice machines and insufficient hot water at a three-compartment sink and a hand sink. One bar station inside the venue was required to close until the hot water issue could be fixed, according to the report. A spokesperson for Billy Bob’s said the bar station was only shut down for one or two hours before the issue was fixed.

None of the establishments inspected during this period received over 30 demerits, but two came close:

  • Kwik Market at 2005 N. Riverside Drive scored 28 on Jan. 21. Raw beef and eggs were stored above ready-to-eat foods, and some employees hadn’t completed an accredited food handler course. The inspector also observed a live cockroach.
  • Ramsey Grocery at 1201 E. Ramsey Ave. scored 28 on Jan. 20. Dead insects were found in one of the freezers, salami and Lunchables were held at an unsafe temperature, and boxes of chips were stored on the floor.

Roaches were reported at a handful of food establishments:

  • Mitchell Food Store at 2921 Mitchell Blvd., scored 3 on Jan. 22. The inspector found dust around the vents in the walk-in cooler and a dead roach on the floor.
  • Nutrition Stop at 6242 McCart Ave. scored 12 on Jan. 21. Bags of ice were stored in one of the hand-washing sinks and a live cockroach was seen in the kitchen.
  • TL Mart, a convenience store at 3227 E. Lancaster Ave., scored 10 on Jan. 21. The inspector found dead roaches in the facility. More roaches were found in the restaurant part of the store, which scored 15 during the inspection.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Fort Worth for Jan. 11th- Jan. 24th 2026. Scores are based on a demerit system. When the total exceeds 30, the restaurant must take immediate corrective action on all identified critical violations, then has 48 hours to initiate corrective action on all other violations.
