3 Fort Worth restaurants closed for inspection violations including roaches, rodents

Three restaurants were temporarily closed in Fort Worth during recent health inspections, according to the latest city inspection records. Two restaurants had live roaches or evidence or other insects or rodents, records show.

According to city data compiled by the Star-Telegram, there were 245 inspections conducted between Nov. 10 and Nov. 23.

Fort Worth inspections scores are based on a demerit system. Food establishments receiving more than 30 demerits have 48 hours to fix the worst problems and then clean up the rest.

Super Mercado Monterrey #6 located at 2916 Hemphill St. was closed and the restaurant received a score of 38 demerits due to various health violations including live roaches, infestation of flies and mosquitoes throughout the food establishment, cross contamination, soiled food contact surfaces, employees who hadn’t completed an accredited food-handler course within the required time, and inadequate hand cleaning supplies.

Rincon Lagunero located at 2720 Pearl Ave. was closed because the only hand sink in the prep area was not functioning. The restaurant scored 36 demerits due to various health violations including lack of proper date labels on food items and employees who hadn’t completed an accredited food-handler course within the required time, among others.

Eddie Jr’s BBQ & Jerk Chicken located at 1023 Woodhaven Blvd. scored 28 demerits and was closed after multiple violations including evidence of rodents and insects, missing hand sink in the pit room and unsanitary conditions.

A repeat violator, Los Juanitos located at 3221 Mansfield Highway scored 27 demerits. The restaurant had various health hazards including cross contamination, employees’ lack of hand hygiene, and insects, pests and flies observed in the kitchen area. If the violations are not fixed the establishment will receive a citation.

The following restaurants received over 30 demerits.

La Playa Maya Northside at 1540 N. Main St. Score: 38

El Porvenir Panaderia at 5031 Wichita St. Score: 37

Asia Bowl & Grill at 2400 Lands End Blvd. Ste 11. Score: 33

Zekes Fish & Chips, 5920 Curzon Ave. Score: 32

Pan Asia Cuisine, 5913 Donnelly Ave. Ste 12. Score: 31
