1 Fort Worth restaurant closed during inspections; insects, expired food found at others

One Fort Worth restaurant was closed for serious health violations during the Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 inspections, and insects and expired food were found at others, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Pho District Vietnamese scored 14 on Nov. 29 and was closed by the city due to no hot water. The inspector also noted that several food items in the walk-in cooler weren’t dated and several bulk food containers weren’t labeled.

No restaurants scored over 30, but four places to eat received high scores. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours.

Poke Stop, located at 8605 N. Beach St., scored 30 demerits on Nov. 30 during a follow-up inspection. The establishment had scored 35 the previous week, and the inspector noted some repeat violations on Nov. 30. Employees hadn’t completed an accredited food handler course or their certificates weren’t available to be inspected and some perishable foods were stored without a date to indicate when they were prepared.

The inspector also found some foods that weren’t held at a safe temperature and raw fish stored above the vegetables. Poke Stop will require a second follow-up inspection.

King Pho and Sushi Bar at 2701 Bello Hill Lane scored 29 on Nov. 27. There was no time stamp on the sushi rice, three dented cans were found in the storage area, some food was stored without labels and dead insects were found on two fly traps in the kitchen. The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection.

Chalios at 308 E. Seminary Drive scored 28 on Nov. 30. The salsa on the serving line wasn’t held at a safe temperature, several perishable food items weren’t dated and some meat was being thawed incorrectly. The inspector also found several expired food items, including pozole and salsa verde, inside the walk-in cooler.

Skillman Wok at 9116 Camp Bowie West Blvd. scored 25 on Dec. 1. The inspector found containers of food on the floor, food and grease residue on the walls and a lot of dust on the racks holding to-go containers.

Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant, located at 2401 W. 7th St., scored 20 on Dec. 1. The inspector saw a live insect at the chip and salsa wait station and noted that the back door is not insect/rodent proof.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Fort Worth for Nov. 26th - Dec. 2nd, 2023. Scores are based on a demerit system. When the total exceeds 30, the restaurant must take immediate corrective action on all identified critical violations, then has 48 hours to initiate corrective action on all other violations.
