3 Plano restaurants closed during health inspections, rodent droppings found at another

Three Plano restaurants were closed during the July 30 to Aug. 26 health inspections and rodent droppings were found at another eatery, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Wing Daddy’s Sauce House at 3115 W. Parker Road was closed for a short time on Aug. 25 due to no hot water. The establishment was given permission to reopen the same day after a follow-up inspection.

Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ at 8240 Preston Road voluntarily closed Aug. 24 because the kitchen air conditioner wasn’t working. The restaurant was allowed to reopen that evening after a follow-up inspection showed the unit had been repaired.

La Michoacana at 1409 Jupiter Road was closed due to wastewater backup. The inspector noted that all corrections had been made and the restaurant was allowed to reopen Aug. 2 after a follow-up inspection.

Rodent droppings were found in the east kitchen at MK Gandhis Malgudi Garden, located at 5024 Tennyson Parkway. The inspector noted at the Aug. 3 inspection that pest control was checking traps every day and that entry points had been located and sealed.

The city of Plano scores restaurants on a 100-point system. A score of 100 is considered a perfect score and 70 is extremely poor. The following restaurants had low scores.

Bawarchi Biryanis Indian Cuisine Express at 8201 Ohio Drive, Suite 105, scored 63 on Aug. 21. Some foods weren’t being held at a safe temperature and trash and debris were lying on the ground near the dumpster.

Bawarchi Indian Cuisine at 8201 Ohio Drive, Suite 110, scored 66 on Aug. 21. The inspector saw fruit flies and gnats at the bar and found dirty bar glasses and dishes from the previous night which hadn’t been washed yet.

A spokesperson for the Bawarchi Group, which includes both of the above locations, told the Star-Telegram that some of their customers thought the restaurants were closed based on the story and issued the following statement:

“Our whole team at Bawarchi group takes city health inspections with utmost importance,” the owners said. “As soon as the inspections were completed and resulted in a low score due to the high temperature, we took all necessary actions and complied with the code.”

Hello India, located at 8740 Ohio Drive, scored 71 on Aug. 14. Some of the food wasn’t being held at a safe temperature and there were no food handler certificates for most of the staff at the facility.

Saravanaa Bhavan, located at 8908 Ohio Drive, scored 74 on Aug. 22. The inspector found a water bottle stored inside the ice machine and noted that the dishes were not being properly sanitized after use.
