2 restaurants fail inspection, another closed for fly infestation in Tarrant County

One Tarrant County restaurant was closed due to a fly infestation, and two mobile food units failed June 11-24 inspections, according to county data compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The Burger King located at 8012 Denton Highway in Watauga was required to close June 21 when inspectors found dozens of house flies on food and food equipment. The restaurant received a perfect score of zero the following day and was allowed to re-open.

Cowtown Dogs, a food truck, failed inspection and wasn’t given a permit to operate. The refrigerator at the back of the unit didn’t cool properly, and the hot water at the sinks didn’t reach a safe temperature. The manager was required to fix the violations and return with the truck to complete the permit process.

Another mobile food unit, Denver Snow LLC, requires a follow-up inspection before it will be allowed to operate. The water tanks were empty, there was no generator and the hand sink wasn’t stocked with soap or paper towels in the latest inspection.

Inspectors also re-opened three restaurants that had been closed since the Benbrook Water Authority turned off their water due to sewage backup.

Sakura Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi at 406 Mercedes scored 17 on the June 22 inspection. The establishment had been closed for two days before it was allowed to re-open.

Wingstop and Domino’s Pizza, both located at 8723 Benbrook Blvd., had been closed for a week. They scored a 4 and 3 respectively on their June 22 inspection and were allowed to re-open.

No restaurants scored more than 29 demerits. Restaurants that receive more than 29 demerits require a follow-up inspection.
