Live roaches found at Fort Worth restaurant, none closed during recent health inspections

Live roaches were found in one Fort Worth restaurant, but no restaurants were closed for serious health violations during March 26-Apr. 1 inspections, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The Green Tea House, located at 3400 Texas Sage Trail, scored 36 demerits. Inspectors noted improper hand-washing procedures, uncovered food and food stored in “thank you” bags and tin cans.

Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours.

The Sushi Axiom, located at 2600 West Seventh St., scored 28. Inspectors observed three live roaches in the kitchen and one dead roach in the sushi bar line. Fried rice was stored at an unsafe temperature, and some bottles of chemicals were unlabeled.

Shinjuku Station, located at 711 West Magnolia Ave., scored 26. Inspectors found black organic matter inside the ice machine, containers of food on the kitchen floor and food stored at unsafe temperatures. There was no certified food manager onsite during the inspection.

No restaurants received a perfect score of zero, but Whataburger at 2600 Hemphill St. and American Airlines - Skyview 8 at 1 Skyview Drive, both scored 1.
