Health inspector finds dead roach inside thawing chicken at a Fort Worth food mart
One Fort Worth restaurant was temporarily closed, and inspectors found a dead roach inside of a thawing chicken at another business when they visited 66 restaurants from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Rincon Lagunero at 2720 Pearl Ave. was closed by the health department due to inadequate refrigeration and no air conditioning. The inspector also noted violations including improperly stored food, mops stored directly next to clean pots and molded lime in the cooler. The restaurant scored 27 demerits in the Oct. 12 inspection. A score of zero is considered perfect.
When they visited A & K Food Mart, a convenience store at 5300 Brentwood Stair Road, on Oct. 14 inspectors found a roach dead inside a thawing chicken, along with chicken being thawed in a bucket on the floor. Other violations found included improperly stored food, inadequate water supply and dust build-up on the fans of the walk-in cooler. The store scored a 19.
Restaurants scoring more than 30 demerits are required to address the worst violations right away and fix up the rest within 48 hours.
Prima Pasta and Pizza at 6108 S. Hulen St. will have to undergo a follow-up after receiving a score of 32. Inspectors noted violations including improperly stored food, food debris and build-up in the fridge and freezers, and a dead roach in the ware wash area.
