2 Fort Worth restaurants score over 30 demerits for health inspection violations
No Fort Worth restaurants were closed for health violations in the 64 inspections conducted by the city between March 27 and April 1, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Two restaurants received more than 30 demerits, meaning they have to immediately fix the worst problems and clean up anything else within 48 hours. They will undergo a reinspection.
Mica’s Carniceria Y Tortilleria at 3501 Decatur Ave. received a score of 38 and Mica’s Tortilleria Y Taqueria #2 at 3564 W. Seminary Drive received a score of 37.
In Fort Worth, a score of 0 is considered perfect.
Inspectors found violations on March 28 at the West Seminary Drive location including black organic matter on the walls inside a walk-in cooler, improperly stored food, utensils stored for use that had food residue on them, and inadequate hand cleaning supplies or hand drying provisions at a hand washing sink.
On March 28 at the store on Decatur Avenue, inspectors noted buildup in the microwave, improperly stored food, a handsink without adequate water supply and leaking faucets, among other problems.
Both locations passed follow-up inspections. The West Seminary Drive location’s March 30 follow-up resulted in a score of 18, and the March 31 follow-up inspection at the Decatur Avenue location scored an 11.
The next highest score was Chuy’s at 4441 River Oaks Blvd. on April 1. The restaurant scored 26 after inspectors noticed violations including improperly stored food; unclean food contact surfaces; damaged floors, walls and/or ceilings; and toxic substances such as chemicals, materials, first-aid kits or employee medication that was not properly stored to prevent food contamination.
Two restaurants received perfect scores of zero, meaning city inspectors found no violations on the property. Jorge’s Taqueria II at 5800 E. Berry St., and Don Artemio, a swanky spot serving Mexican cuisine at 3268 W. 7th St., both received perfect marks.
