New smoothie cafe set to open near TCU, offering lighter alternative to college food
A new Tropical Smoothie Cafe location is moving to West Berry Street near TCU.
According to a construction permit filed with the city, the franchise is building out an empty space at 2821 W. Berry St. It will be across the street from the Fat Shack restaurant that opened last year.
Atlanta-based Tropical Smoothie Cafe brands itself as a health-conscious quick casual restaurant chain. In addition to smoothies, it offers flatbreads, sandwiches, wraps and salads, though the majority of its sales are smoothies.
This new franchise location is part of an aggressive move on the chain’s part to expand its footprint in Dallas-Fort Worth. Last year, CEO Charles Watson told the Star-Telegram that Texas is a “bit of a battleground” for smoothie chain dominance, since Jamba Juice is headquartered in Frisco while Smoothie King is based out of Coppell.
This new location near TCU is likely to offer students a lighter dining alternative.
No word yet on when it will open.
