Mutts Canine Cantina, which originated in Dallas and recently opened a Fort Worth location, is a dog park with a restaurant and bar attached. It already employs “Bark Rangers,” workers who will watch your dog, bring them water and even pick up their poop while you sip a drink or eat a chicken sandwich.
But now they’ve posted a cherry job: “Puptern.” And unlike a lot of internships, this one pays. And unlike other internships that pay, this one pays well.
Like $100 an hour well.
It’s a fall internship, so it’s not like you can make a career of it. But “In this role, the Puptern will greet MUTTS members with a friendly face, while offering to play and pet with their dogs and that’s it — we Shih Tzu not!” Yes, they said that, including that last part, in a press release.

“Typically, there may be other responsibilities that come with the job, but not this one,” Mutts co-founder Kyle Noonan says in the release. Yes, that means that the Puptern won’t have to pick up poop. The Bark Rangers will still do that. “I’d be lying if I said this is going to be one ‘ruff’ internship.” Yes, he said that, too.
Here’s what we do know: There is only one Pupternship available — but the candidate selected will only be at the Fort Worth location of MUTTS. The Puptern gets to roam both the large and the small dog parks, and to engage with the owners as well as the dogs. And you get to eat free food: Mutts Original Chicken Sandwich is pretty good, and the limited menu also has a good burger, milkshakes and more.
No mention is made in the release about free alcoholic beverages, but you’ll be on the clock, so take that into account. You have to be at least 18 to apply and have no canine-related allergies.
To apply, visit the @muttscantina Instagram page. You have until Nov. 12 to apply. And it’s all about the Instagram: “Applicants must post a fun and engaging photo or video on their personal Instagram account that explains why they would be the best Puptern for MUTTS. The applicant must tag @muttscantina and use the hashtag #MUTTSpuptern within their caption. Instagram accounts must be public for the MUTTS team to view the post.”
This appears to be wide open to anyone who’s willing to make the trip to Dallas-Fort Worth: Once the application process has closed, Mutts will contact the winning candidate to talk about schedules and, if necessary, travel arrangements. Mutts says that it’s flexible and willing to work around the selected candidate’s schedule.
