This new Montgomery Plaza restaurant is all about New Orleans and chargrilled oysters

Chargrilled oysters are easy to find in New Orleans, but not so much in landlocked Fort Worth. Bourbon Street Oyster Bar & Grill might change that. The restaurant is set to open mid-month in a corner spot of Montgomery Plaza, just next door to its barbecue and whiskey-focused sister concept, Barrel & Bones, which opened last month. Bourbon Street is owners Mark and Dirk Kelcher’s homage to the Big Easy. After several visits, the twin brothers developed a strong affinity for Cajun seafood, says Mark. Kyle Hidell is also an owner.

“Specifically, oysters prepared in different facets,” he adds. “For six years we have been searching for the right location to open our own oyster bar. We feel that we have now found the perfect location to bring some of our favorite food to the metroplex.”

Freshly-shucked oysters on the half-shell will be grilled over open flames, just as the pros do at French Quarter favorites like Acme Oyster House and Drago’s. Topped with garlic-herb butter, parmesan and Romano cheeses and fresh parsley, they’ll be served with warm bread for sopping.

Other menu items will include jambalaya, crab cakes with crawfish Julie sauce – made with crawfish tail meat, mushrooms, peppers and lemon – and an oyster special named for Seventh Street: baked oysters topped with apricot bacon jam. There’ll be hurricanes and bushwackers to wash it all down. Look for an October 18 grand opening to begin at 6 p.m.
