Hungry for cool weather? These restaurants have dressed their menus in fall flavors
There is perhaps no bigger seasonal transition from that of summer to fall, and area menus are starting to show it with autumnal flavors. Here’s a quick glimpse of what’s cooking.
Bird Café dumplings
At Bird Café, pheasant replaces the typical chicken in chef Kyle Baker’s dumplings dish, which comes topped with a Béchamel sauce and is served with pickled carrots and haricot vert. Also go for his new maple-glazed pork belly with butternut squash and apple fennel slaw, or for the more adventurous, his crispy fried “Nashville hot” sweetbreads. 155 East 4th Street, Fort Worth, 817-332-2473, www.birdinthe.net
Eatzi’s chicken and dumplings
Dumplings are also on the menu now for the season at Eatzi’s, in the form of old fashioned chicken and dumplings. Starting October 19 through the end of the month, Eatzi’s Halloween goodies include chocolate caramel apples and chocolate covered Oreos decorated in spooky fashion. The gourmet take-out shop is also offering tailgate favorites like Buffalo chicken cheese dip and boneless Nashville hot wings every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during football season. 1540 South University Drive, Fort Worth, 817-945-9095, 1200 West State Highway 114, Grapevine, 817-527-4007, www.eatzis.com
Pinstripes’ new fall menu
At Pinstripes, where dinner can come with a round of bowling or bocce, new fall menu items include roasted acorn squash topped with thick burrata cheese, pumpkin seeds and balsamic glaze, a fall “farmer’s market” salad with maple pecan vinaigrette, roasted butternut squash, goat cheese and pomegranate seeds, and a new San Marzano tomato soup (available on Wednesdays) with fennel and mascarpone. There’s also a four-course beer pairing dinner on October 18 (7 p.m., $60) that includes bacon-wrapped jalapenos and figs along with halibut over curry risotto with a creamy coconut sauce paired with brews from Real Ale Brewing. 5001 Trailhead Bend Way, Fort Worth, 682-352-0808, www.pinstripes.com
SusieCakes’ ode to the pumpkin
The famous layer cake at WestBend’s SusieCakes now comes in a pumpkin spice variety that’s frosted with pumpkin cream cheese frosting and drizzled with chocolate ganache. The ode to pumpkin at the California-based scratch bakery doesn’t end there. Find pumpkin cheesecake with a sweet sour cream topping, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin maple cupcakes, and old fashion flaky pumpkin pie. Also vailable now through the end of the month are “Trick-or-Treat” blondie bars loaded with Halloween chocolate candies and frosted sugar cookies in ghosts, jack-o-lanterns and vampires. 1621 River Run, Fort Worth, www.susiecakes.com
