How to cruise with a CPAP machine

If you use a CPAP machine at home, you might wonder how that works on a cruise ship where cabin space is limited and electrical outlets are scarce. The good news is that cruise lines are well prepared to accommodate CPAP users, but there are a few things you need to do before you sail and when you first arrive at your cabin.

TravelHost's Come Cruise With Me Editor in Chief Daniel Kline and his travel agent partner, Postcard Travel Planning's Dennis Post, recently explained exactly what CPAP users need to know, from pre-cruise equipment checks to requesting the right supplies from your cabin steward in the video below.

Forgetting these steps could mean struggling with equipment or running out of essential supplies.

Dan Kline: Hey there, cruisers. Dan and Dennis, your travel hosts. Here we are at El Cid in Cozumel, but we're talking about something actually on the ship.

Dennis, you travel with the CPAP. A lot of people travel with a CPAP machine. What do you do before your cruise? In order to make sure the cruise line has everything you need for the CPAP machine.

Dennis Post: So before the cruise, the most important thing is make sure you have your mask and everything is up to speed. Meaning that you're not ready to replace it so you have good equipment once you get on the ship.

Once you get on, your cabin steward will take care of everything. When you get to your cabin, you meet your cabin steward.

Just tell them that you have a CPAP machine. They'll bring you an extension cord and distilled water for free.

Kline: Now, it's always better to let the cruise line know before you get on the ship. Your travel agent can handle that. You can do that. But in general, your room steward will go above and beyond.

But if they know you're coming, it's a little bit easier. There's only so many extension cords.

So it is really easy to travel with the CPAP, especially on cruise ships. I am Dan, he is Dennis. Come cruise with us soon.
