Fort Worth Cocktail Week set to shake, stir things up
Details are still evolving, but “Fort Worth Cocktail Week” has been announced for Oct. 17-23.
Things actually start in August, though, with Stir, the Fort Worth Weekly’s monthly Craft Cocktail Competition, which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Bird Cafe.
“The event will feature four local bartenders using Colorado High Hemp Vodka and their own special ingredients,” says the Facebook event page, employing a detail that should attract some people’s attention.
You may have inferred from the above that the Weekly is also behind Fort Worth Cocktail Week, and you’d be correct. Planned events include a Tiki Party at modern craft-cocktail-bar pioneer The Usual, and a Bourbon Bash at cool downtown spot Thompson’s.
A release mentions nothing about events at Proper, the city’s other major craft-cocktail bar, although things are still in development. (Coincidentally, Proper, in conjunction with next-door neighbor Fixture Kitchen and Social Lounge, has a Tiki Tiki Tiki Luau Party planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17.)
Other Fort Worth Cocktail Week events include a Texas Spirits Tasting Party on Oct. 17 at the Mopac Events Center, 1615 Rogers Road; and Bartenders Without Borders, which will highlight tequilas and agaves, Oct. 18 at Shipping & Receiving’s Tilt Room Event Space, 201 S. Calhoun St. on the south side.
No mixologists have been announced, but organizers say the event, which is loosely patterned after DFW Restaurant Week, are hoping that Fort Worth restaurants will embrace the idea and create their own special cocktail menu for the week. Stay tuned to the Fort Worth Cocktail Week website for updates.
