Fletcher’s corny dogs come out to play this summer

If you drive past Fair Park in early June and smell the sweet aroma of Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, those most beloved of deep-fried State Fair foods, don’t worry, it’s no olfactary fantasy.

The famous corn dogs are coming out to play June 10-11 as part of Fair Park’s 80th birthday celebration.

Fair Park, home to the State Fair of Texas every fall, will commemorate its milestone with a festival that will include free rides on the giant Texas Star ferris wheel and Top o’ Texas Tower, plus live music from Brave Combo, the Quebe Sisters and The Mavericks. And keep an out for Little Big Tex, who will be roaming the Midway.

Because no State Fair experience would be complete without a hand-dipped Fletcher’s corny dog, they will be sold June 10 from 5-10 p.m., and June 11, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Don’t fret if you can’t make it to Fair Park this summer, the State Fair of Texas kicks off soon enough, Sept. 30-Oct. 23. And Fletcher’s usually sells about half-a-million dipped dogs during those three weeks, so they should be able to take care of you.

Or, if you’re on the western side of the Metroplex, Texas Motor Speedway will offer Fletcher’s corny dogs that same weekend, June 9-11, when it hosts the Firestone 600, the annual Indy Car race in Fort Worth.

At TMS, you can wash down your corn dog with the official craft beer of the speedway, No Limits Checkered Past. A light-bodied Texas steam beer, No Limits was brewed by Audacity Brew House in Denton and debuted at TMS for the April NASCAR race. It’s now available at local retailers.
