Dallas pizza fave Olivella’s adds extra wine for Fort Worth

Olivella’s Neo Pizza Napoletana might not be as well-known as some other artisan pizzerias, but the Park Cities knows.

What began 10 years ago in University Park comes to Fort Worth with this week’s opening in the Village at Camp Bowie.

Olivella’s has the now-familiar wood-oven artisan pizza with two crusts: thin and thinner.

The Neapolitan has a charred crust with toppings such as mushroom-truffle, spinach or chicken-bacon-jalapeño-Gorgonzola.

Olivella’s also has a pizza Margherita and other choices “Romano-style”: a thin, rectangular crust with the same shape but different flavor from that other familiar pizza restaurant down the street.

The Fort Worth menu will include a few only-in-Cowtown pizzas: a white clam pizza with pecorino, a “Rockefeller” pizza with clams and spinach, and a sugary Nutella dessert called the zeppole.

The Camp Bowie Boulevard location in Ridglea is a former Tim Love tapas restaurant that was recently underutilized as a burger grill. The handsome dining room (with fireplace), wasted as a burger-grill TV room, opens onto an all-season patio with a retractable roof.

Olivella’s has always had a good wine list, but owners say this location will have the most extensive selection of any location.

Olivella’s appeals to the same couples and families who go to the artisan pizzerias on Crockett Street or Magnolia Avenue, so expect a lively crowd at night. The tone will be calmer at lunch, when Olivella’s is between the busy Lunch Box cafe and a McAlister’s Deli.

Sprouting bargains

Speaking of the Village at Camp Bowie, the new Sprouts Farmers Market grocery is also a dining destination.

Few other delis open at 7 a.m. and sell $3.99 sandwiches, ready to grab and pack for school or work.

There are options to upgrade to a specialty sandwich for $4.99, or to choose Boar’s Head meats; 6300 Waverly Way, 682-747-5456, sprouts.com.

Easter hunt

An item on the various Easter brunches appeared Friday in Eats Beat.

Here are a few late reports:

Eddie V’s will open at 11 a.m. and serve a $49 brunch menu, including bananas Foster cake.

Buffalo West will open at 10 a.m. and will include a pianist.

For a big family, Heaven’s Gate Restaurant will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets all day; 3820 N. Main St. (formerly Colonial House), 817-624-1262.

There’s a restaurant offering “kids eats free”? On Easter?

Yes: The Iron Skillet Restaurant, Weatherford’s 24-hour standby for dining any day, any time, welcomes children for the Easter buffet; 2001 Santa Fe Drive (Interstate 20 at Clear Lake Road).
