Eats Beat: New burgers at Shep’s in Weatherford, and one for Randy G
Shep’s Place brought artisan burgers to Weatherford.
Now, the second edition of Shep’s menu adds even more variety.
Shep’s, owner John Shepherd’s burger grill and bar in a former Dairy Queen, now serves nine burgers, including a Greek burger with pesto, olives and feta and a turkey burger with sauteed spinach.
The most fascinating burger might be the Match Stick: a burger with a four-pepper sauce (habanero, serrano, jalapeño and bell-pepper) with cheddar, topped with a stack of matchstick potatoes.
All the burgers are served on the thick, familiar Hawaiian sweet-sourdough buns, like those at Dutch’s and other Fort Worth favorites.
One of the steady menu items is “Randy G’s BLT,” named for retired Star-Telegram columnist Randy Galloway and served with or without a fried egg.
Shepherd originally opened a bar and grill on the courthouse square, then moved to the landmark old Dairy Queen site near what used to be the high school.
Shep’s also offers four salads including a spinach salad with spicy avocado dressing and a Greek salad.
It’s open for lunch and dinner weekdays and Saturdays, closed Sundays; 816 S. Main St., Weatherford, 682-804-5002, facebook.com/shepsplacewford.
A ‘doughnut muffin’?
Known for making the Shep’s desserts, Jeri’s Back Home Bakery in Weatherford now serves breakfast items Tuesday through Friday mornings.
Jeri’s has added ham-and-cheese pockets and quiche to its daily selections such as cinnamon rolls, muffins, cake-ball pops and cookies. (The offerings include a “doughnut muffin.”)
Jeri’s serves baked goods daily until 5 p.m. and at midday Saturdays; 316 Santa Fe Drive, 817-594-4003; on Facebook: Jeri’s Back Home Bakery.
Lunch at the Dive
The Dive Oyster Bar now requires less of a wallet dive at lunch.
The new seafood cafe on the Benbrook Traffic Circle has added $6 and $7 weekday lunch combos with fried catfish, chicken, shrimp or oysters and fries.
The Dive is former Waters sous chef Josh Rangel’s new project, featuring specialty oysters, grilled oysters, blackened redfish with étouffée, seafood and gumbo along with a burger or fish-and-chips.
A crawfish boil Sunday will offer all-you-can-eat ($35 for advance tickets).
Don’t miss the hush puppies, and watch for more events: 3520 Alta Mere Drive, 817-560-DIVE.
