Fort Worth chefs to have all-star chili cookoff
Stumbled across this on the Dagwoods Fire Grill Tap Facebook page: A Celebrity Chef Chili Cook-Off at noon, March 6, in the Dagwoods FGT parking lot.
Turns out it’s presented by Fort Worth Weekly, which has done a pretty bang-up job of organizing the players for what appears to be the first installment of an annual event.
Some of the names you might expect: Terry Chandler of Fred’s Texas Cafe, Keith Hicks of Buttons, Grady Spears of Horseshoe Hill, Jon Bonnell of Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine and Waters Bonnell’s Coastal Cuisine. And, of course, David Hollister, the meat-loving honcho behind Dagwoods FGT, Dagwoods Grinders and Growlers, Common Ground Grill & Tap and Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill.
But then there’s Sandra Avila, the chef at high-end (and excellent) Parisian restaurant Le Cep. And Blaine Staniford of downtown Fort Worth’s upscale Grace and its more casual sibling, Little Red Wasp. And Hell’s Kitchen alum Kalen Morgenstern, of West 7th’s innovative FW Market + Table.
Others in the lineup include Jerret Joslin (Fort Worth’s Wild Mushroom Steak House and Lounge, Weatherford’s Vintage Grill & Car Museum), David McMillan (Bird Café), Stefon Rishel (Max’s Wine Dive), Juan Rodriguez (Magdalena’s -- Cocina Mexicana Local), Billy Woodrich (Billy's Oak Acres BBQ) and Sarah Castillo (Taco Heads).
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 day of. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Cook Children’s. There’s more than chili going on here: There will be live music, prizes, cooking demonstrations and drinks. And the chance to sample and vote for your favorite chili.
Event time is noon March 6 at Dagwoods FGT, 843 Foch St. in Fort Worth. For tickets, go here. Dallas’ Proudly sponsored by Deep Ellum Brewing Company and Houston’s Karbach Brewing Company are sponsors of this gathering of Fort Worth chefs.
