Tony’s Pizza Pasta & Subs gets in the picture
If you happen by Tony’s Pizza Pasta & Subs in Fort Worth this weekend, don’t be surprised if you get a side of lights, camera and action with your calzone.
From Friday through Sunday, Hollywood is coming to Tony’s as it will be used for scenes in a web TV series called Bail Out, starring Lorenzo Lamas and Fort Worth-based Dennis O’Neill, who also directs. It’s a comedy about a New York detective, hounded by the mob, who relocates to Texas.
“Producers love the corner location...They liked the look of the place,” said owner Tony Leland of his New York-style pizza spot that opened in 2013 about a mile south of downtown. “[And] they like me as a pizza man.”
Leland even got a part as “one of the mob guys,” he says.
He’s no stranger to the world of acting, having appeared in a production of Tony and Tina’s Wedding at Bass Hall in 2005. Referring to his pizza persona, he says, “I’m a character all day as it is.”
Fort Worth mayor Betsy Price will also have a cameo in Bail Out, according to O’Neill.
Tony’s Pizza Pasta & Subs, at 609 S. Jennings, will be open this weekend despite the visitors.
This is the second time in less than a month that Tony’s has been used as a movie set. The comedy A Bad Idea Gone Wrong, starring Matt L. Jones (Breaking Bad) and Will Rogers (Bridge of Spies) shot there three weeks ago. Other Fort Worth locations for the film include the Old South Pancake House, Rivercrest Landing and the near Southside. The film is produced by Fort Worth’s Red Productions.
