We want the scoop on readers’ best ice cream recipes

Do you find yourself having Mooo Bar withdrawals? Did you cry throwing out your last pint of Homemade Vanilla?

In the wake of the big Blue Bell Ice Cream recall, we are holding an emergency ice cream contest for readers, in hopes that your tastiest homemade ice cream recipes might fill the void left in all our hearts — and our sundae dishes — while we miss the sweet tastes coming from the little creamery in Brenham.

Whether you have a family recipe passed down through generations or a unique creation you concocted in your kitchen, we want you to share all the sweet details about your favorite flavor for a chance to win the title of “Golden Scoop.”

Results and recipes will be published in the Star-Telegram Life & Arts section, and at Star-Telegram.com, on Sunday, May 24 — just in time for Memorial Day cookouts.

Here’s the scoop: To enter, send us your original or adapted recipe and a photo of the ice cream, if possible. Just one per person, please. Include some basic information about where you got the recipe (if adapted) or how you came up with it. Make sure you include an ingredient list, complete instructions and how many servings the recipe yields. You cannot submit a recipe out of a cookbook.

The recipes will be evaluated by a panel of experts, and finalists will be chosen to bring in samples for a taste-test. From those samples, we will choose the winners and runners-up.

With your entry, be sure to include your name, address, daytime phone number, email address and age.

Deadlines: Recipes must be received, either by email or regular mail, by Wednesday, May 6. If chosen as a finalist, you will be contacted by Friday, May 8, and asked to bring samples of your ice cream to our downtown Fort Worth offices on Wednesday, May 13.

Finalists will be asked to drop off two samples — one to be styled and shot by our photographer and one for our judges to taste and rate. If you did not make the finals, you will not be contacted.

Note: Entrants must live in North Texas. Employees of the Star-Telegram and their immediate family members may not enter.
