Diet Coke is getting a major makeover, plus adding new flavors
Diet Coke is kicking off the new year with a different, more millennial-friendly look.
On Wednesday, Coca-Cola announced it has revamped the packaging of the iconic soft drink, opting for a sleeker, more modern design. The new 12-ounce can, which is noticeably skinnier than its predecessor, will hit U.S. stores later this month.
In addition to revamping its image, Coca-Cola also has announced it will be launching four new flavors of Diet Coke. The lineup includes: Ginger Lime, Feisty Cherry, Zesty Blood Orange and Twisted Mango.
If you’re a Diet Coke purist, don’t worry. The brand assures that the classic version’s formula will remain unchanged.
“Diet Coke is one of the most iconic brands loved by millions of fans in North America,” said Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America’s group director for Diet Coke. “Throughout this relaunch journey, we wanted to be bold, think differently and be innovative in our approach. And most importantly, we wanted to stay true to the essence of Diet Coke while recasting the brand for a new generation.”
According to Business Insider, the zero calorie beverage has struggled in recent years, as many health-conscious shoppers have cut sugar completely out of their diet. In 2016, Diet Coke sales dropped 1.9 percent.
With its new reinvention, the brand is now targeting a younger audience with an affinity for big, yet refreshing flavors.
“Millennials are now thirstier than ever for adventures and new experiences, and we want to be right by their side,” Acevedo said.
So far, the announcement has garnered mix reactions on Twitter.
Also: Diet Cherry Coke is already a thing. Is "feisty cherry" the same thing only more aggressive? I started this day with no Diet Coke questions and now I have so many Diet Coke questions. pic.twitter.com/LhJnFPuYkw
