From pizza to pups with Cane Rosso Rescue

Cane Rosso Rescue Center will open its doors in Carrollton Monday, with a grand opening event set to begin at 7 p.m.

If the name of the non-profit organization — Cane Rosso Rescue — sounds familiar, that’s because it’s also the name of Jay Jerrier’s Dallas-based pizza chain (Jerrier also own Zoli’s NY Pizza Tavern, slated to reopen in Addison early next year).

Jerrier founded Cane Rosso Rescue in 2014, establishing the 501(c)3 to “support local dog rescue groups, create a network of foster homes throughout Texas, and ultimately, find homes for abandoned or homeless dogs,” according to a statement. The organization has, to date, found homes for more than 130 dogs, according to press materials.

The Carrollton center’s grand opening will also double as a fundraiser, with the public able to purchase tickets, and all proceeds will benefit the Cane Rosso Rescue Center’s work. The center is located at 1421 W. Main St. in Carrollton.

To entice the public, Jerrier said in a statement that attendees will be able to sample “new and enhanced classic menu items from chefs Cody Sharp and Lee Hunzinger of Zoli’s,” as well as cocktails created by Cane Rosso’s beverage director, Kendyll Clark.

Those attending the grand opening of Cane Rosso Rescue Center will also be able to tour the 2,900-square foot facility, which can house between 20 and 25 dogs, and is, according to press materials, “designed to set a new standard for animal rescue centers [as] ... a rescue, rehabilitation, and placement facility for sporting dogs that have been abandoned or surrendered to shelters.”

“Ever since we formed our rescue organization, we have dreamed of having a space of our own so that we could help more dogs,” Jerrier said in a statement. “While we primarily rely on fosters to keep our dogs safe, having our own facility with our own kennels lets us care for more dogs.

“Our vision is that the rescue center will be a great hub of community involvement. Now that we are finally open — it is a great spot to come and visit, play with the dogs, or volunteer. We are always looking for volunteers to walk dogs, clean kennels, bathe dogs, or help with landscaping and general maintenance.”
