Eats Beat: Thai, sushi, pho combine in Hudson Oaks
Fort Worth’s first family of Thai restaurants is growing west.
Blu Jasmine Thai Kitchen & Sushi Bar, the fourth location from a family known for Thai cooking, is open in the Shops at Hudson Oaks, a growing shopping area awaiting the arrival of an H-E-B grocery.
Blu Jasmine is the first of the Thanpaisarnsamut family’s restaurants to include a sushi bar. A simple spicy tuna roll came out extra-special this week, so it’s off to a good start.
The regular menu is similiar to Spice Thai, Thai Select and Thailicious, all family restaurants that sprang from the original Thai Rice ’n’ Noodle on Camp Bowie Boulevard West.
The vast list of specials includes duck with basil and peppers (“ga prow” or “kra prow”), salmon topped with panang curry, a Thai-style rib-eye steak or a seafood combination in green curry.
Regular items include the familiar spicy basil chicken, beef or pork “kra prow,” curries, pad Thai, salads and a choice of either Thai soups or Vietnamese pho.
Lunches cost about $10, dinners $11 and up. A longer-than-usual list of desserts includes coconut ice cream.
Blu Jasmine is open for lunch and dinner daily at 100 S. Oakridge Drive, No. 135, south of U.S. 180 behind a McDonald’s. Delivery is free within three miles, $3 up to five miles. 817-599-3303, blujasmine.com.
Also new and open in the Shops at Hudson Oaks: a Palio’s Pizza Cafe, the newest location for a very popular local pizza chain that started in Colleyville.
“Urban” Thai
A more elaborate Thai-inspired restaurant is near opening in Fort Worth’s West 7th shops.
Kin Kin Urban Thai, new from chef Eddy Thretipthuangsin of Bite City Grill, has announced a Feb. 28 opening for dinner with lunch to follow in March.
Kin Kin will offer “Chef Eddy’s” traditional dishes — he’s a former chef at highly regarded Pakpao in Dallas — but adds more contemporary items such as a Thai-inspired burger or Thai-style Scotch eggs.
Two more Kin Kins have been announced in Dallas. The Fort Worth restaurant will be at 2801 W. Seventh St., 817-984-1363, kinkinurbanthai.com.
Greasy Bend extends
Fast-growing Greasy Bend Burgers has added early dinner hours and now opens six days and nights a week.
Greasy Bend, a small diner in the Riverside neighborhood, serves old-fashioned grill burgers meant as an updated tribute to burger cafes of the past like Morris Neal’s Handy Hamburgers in Cleburne.
Greasy Bend is open 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for lunch and 4:30-7 p.m. for dinner weekdays and Saturdays.
It’s at 2919 Race St., about five blocks north of Texas 121 near North Riverside Drive; 817-222-0184, greasybendburgers.com.
