But wait, there’s still more pumpkin: DFW restaurants are in on the spice
We’ve barely gotten beneath the skin of the annual pumpkin movement, and there are some items we haven’t sampled yet this season. Here’s what some local establishments have on the vine.
Brewed: Local coffee bars aren’t about to let Starbucks have all the fun. This Magnolia Avenue restaurant/coffee bar/beer bar/hangout will bring back its own popular pumpkin-spice latte Friday, just in time for TCU Family Weekend. 801 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth; brewedfw.com.
Cane Rosso: The Neapolitan pizza restaurant will offer a pumpkin zeppole (fried Italian doughnuts) with a salted caramel dipping sauce and a roasted pumpkin panna cotta with cookie-butter crumble. Five DFW locations, including 815 W. Magnolia Ave. in Fort Worth, www.canerosso.com
Crunch Donut Factory: This Arlington doughnut shop, which gives its wares clever, celebrity-inspired names, will have pumpkin doughnuts — as well as the Halloween-themed Jackie O Lantern — beginning Oct. 1. 3200 S. Cooper St., No. 104, Arlington; www.crunchdonutfactory.com.
FunkyTown Donuts: Yes, the big doughnut chains — and even some convenience stores — have already rolled out their pumpkin-season doughnuts. But can they take you to Funkytown? The imaginative Fort Worth shop will have a pumpkin-spiced cake doughnut with cream-cheese icing, and has plans for a yeast pumpkin doughnut as well. 1000 Eighth Ave., Fort Worth; www.funkytowndonuts.com.
Gypsy Scoops: This is the second pumpkin season that Gypsy Scoops will be operating out of a charming old house on Race Street in the Riverside Arts District northeast of downtown Fort Worth. And it will once again have its pumpkin pie-pecan flavor, which was a big hit last year. 2905 Race St., Fort Worth; www.gypsyscoops.com.
Magnolia Motor Lounge: This West Seventh-area spot does a burger of the month, and a pumpkin burger is in the works for October. At press time, it was still in development, but we’re told that it will be a “play on pumpkin marshmallow” with spicy candied bacon. 3005 Morton St., Fort Worth, www.mmlbar.com/
Roots Coffeehouse: This laid-back, spacious North Richland Hills hangout is another coffee spot that will launch its pumpkin drinks Friday. 9101 Boulevard 26, No. 101, North Richland Hills; www.rootscoffeehouse.com.
Swiss Pastry Shop: Leave it to the evil geniuses at Swiss Pastry Shop to turn a pumpkin-spice latte into a pumpkin-latte cake, which is a pumpkin cake with espresso-swirled cream-cheese icing. Available now. 3936 W. Vickery Blvd., Fort Worth; www.swisspastryonline.com.
Texas Bleu Steakhouse: This Old Town Keller steakhouse will have a Pumpkin Spice Cocktail, featuring vanilla vodka, Baileys Irish Cream and pumpkin liqueur, topped with cinnamon, in a graham-cracker-rimmed glass. Sounds smashing. 124 S. Main St., Keller; http://texasbleu.com.
