Maren Morris nominated for 5 CMA Awards
Writing about Arlington native Maren Morris in April of this year, DFW.com music critic Preston Jones began with “The past 12 months have been busy, dizzying ones for Maren Morris.”
The busy, dizzying times have continued since: Morris has been touring with Keith Urban, and a CMT Crossroads episode with Alicia Keys is in the works.
And on Wednesday morning, the Country Music Association announced the nominees for The 50th Annual CMA Awards — and Morris has five of them. She’s tied with Eric Church and Chris Stapleton for the most nominations.
That one of those nominations is for Best New Artist is both odd and unsurprising: Morris has been getting a lot of national attention this year, but she had been performing on North Texas stages for a decade before moving to Nashville a few years ago.
She is also up for Female Vocalist of the Year in a category dominated by Texans: East Texans Miranda Lambert (from Lindale) and Kacey Musgraves (from Golden, near Mineola) are also nominees, along with Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini.
Morris’ album Hero is an Album of the Year nominee, and her hit My Church, which she co-wrote with single-named, lowercased songwriter/producer busbee, is up for Single of the Year and Album of the Year.
