Living in North Texas, it never comes as a surprise that around this time each year, the weather starts getting hotter and stickier. As the daily temperature and relative humidity rise, I often find that wearing a full face of heavy skin-care and makeup products can feel a little disgusting.

My solution during warmer months is to pare down my beauty routine to lightweight products that hydrate without adding shine to my already perspiring face.

One of the hardest products to come by has been a daily moisturizer that is not thick and greasy. Since beginning my search several year ago, I’ve gone through many moisturizers, only to find that (other than Murad’s Oil Control Mattifier) the options are rather bleak.

Fortunately, that may soon change with the release of EVE LOM’s Rescue Oil-Free Moisturizer ($75, Barneys.com). Infused with a rare flower from the Swiss Alps, the moisturizer claims to help eliminate shine by controlling excess sebum production. Beyond its oil control properties, the product offers other notable skin benefits such as soothing inflammation, refining skin texture and minimizing pores.

First impression

After cleansing my skin with Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser, I applied three pumps of EVE LOM’s Rescue Oil-Free Moisturizer to my face. The first thing I noticed was how lightweight the moisturizer is and how smoothly it applies to the skin with little effort. The product is fragrance-free and does a nice job of leaving your skin looking tighter and brighter after applied.

The moisturizer does not feel greasy and does not appear to leave any shine behind, though the real test would be to see how it performed as the day progressed.

Fab or flub?

Fab! If you want to keep things light and easy this warm-weather season, look no further than EVE LOM’s Rescue Oil-Free Moisturizer.

Offering hydration without the shine, the oil-free serum is weightless and sinks right into the skin for a refreshing, soothing feeling. Applied daily before makeup, the product also does an excellent job of prepping skin for a smooth, even finish.

Compared to Murad’s Oil-Control Mattifier, the moisturizer was not as mattifying. Thankfully, though, it did not add more shine to the T-zone as the day progressed.

Currently, the pricey product is only available on the Barneys New York website. However, I am hopeful it will soon be making its way to Sephora and Anthropologie (both stores carry other EVE LOM products).
