Carrie McClure’s exit not only ‘GMT’ change, report says
As reported in early April, Good Morning Texas co-host Carrie McClure is leaving the WFAA/Channel 8 morning show after nearly four years. Friday morning was her last day, and she said an emotional goodbye at the end of the show.
But local-TV watcher Ed Bark reports on his Uncle Barky’s Bytes blog that McClure’s exit isn’t the only change.
Mike Castellucci, the station’s former “Why Guy” who returned to Channel 8 three years ago to co-host GMT, will return to the news department, Bark reports, citing sources at the station (GMT, which included pay-for-play sponsored segments, is not under the news department).
Citing longtime San Antonio Express-News TV critic Jeanne Jakle, who broke the news, Bark also reports that S.A. TV host Alanna Sarabia, co-host of WOAI-TV’s San Antonio Living, will join GMT on May 23. Jakle reports that Sarabia, 27, was born in Dallas and spent most of her life in Grand Prairie.
Sarabia is a former Miss San Antonio and a former San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancer, Jakle notes.
Jane McGarry, the former KXAS/Channel 5 anchor who was hired as a contributor to Good Morning Texas in early 2013 and became a co-host in March 2015, is staying in her co-host slot, per Bark’s report.
This is the latest in a long run of changes at GMT. To recap: Since McClure came on board, McGarry was hired as a contributor, and became a co-host; Castellucci joined the show: and longtime co-host Amy Vanderoef left in February 2015.
