Prince movie ‘Purple Rain’ back in theaters
It’s going to be raining purple in AMC and Carmike theaters this weekend.
The chains announced Friday that 167 of their multiplexes will show Prince’s 1984 film Purple Rain Saturday through Thursday. In the DFW area, the film will be shown at AMC Grapevine Mills, AMC Parks at Arlington, AMC Mesquite 30 and AMC Stonebriar in Frisco. The closest Carmike theaters showing it are in Tyler, Lufkin and Wichita Falls.
Meanwhile, Studio Movie Grill announced that all of its theaters nationwide will show the film Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with tickets set at $5.
Although Prince was popular before the release of Purple Rain, its success pushed him to superstardom. The soundtrack went platinum 13 times over and spawned the hit singles When Doves Cry and Let’s Go Crazy. It also earned Prince an Oscar.
