Nature-friendly activities in DFW starting April 16

▪ The Grapevine Garden Club spring plant sale will be 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 16, at the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park, 411 Ball St. Master gardeners will answer questions. Plants include drought-tolerant varieties, heirloom perennials and butterfly plants.

▪ The spring plant sale at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 17. It will feature an extensive selection of native milkweed plants for monarch butterfly plantings. www.heardmuseum.org/plantsale.

▪ Attend a beginner’s adult yoga class led by certified instructor Becky Peña at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at the River Legacy Living Science Center. It’s $5. ▪ Interested in plants that bloom year after year? Learn about perennials during a class at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at all area Calloway’s stores. calloways.com.

▪ Bring the family to a come-and-go spring crafting experience, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. The program is free with paid admission ($2-$5).

Canoe Fest is noon-4 p.m. Sunday, April 17. Canoes, paddles and life jackets will be provided. It’s $5 with paid admission and is first come, first served. Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult.

The Preschool Discovery Club will study prairie animals and plants, 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22. The class is for ages 3-5 and is $8 per child. To register, call 817-392-7410.

From 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 22, there will be a Full Moon Paddle on the West Fork of the Trinity River. Everything is provided. It’s $20 with paid admission.

▪ Friends of Southwest Nature Preserve in Arlington will host John Darling, speaking on “Mammals of the Southwest Nature Preserve: An Exercise in More or Less Informed Speculation,” 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Community Room at the West Arlington Police Station, 2060 W. Green Oaks Blvd.

▪ Get your gardening questions answered with a call to the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association help desk, 817-884-1944. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

▪ Johnson County Master Gardeners also answer gardening questions and give advice 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays. Call the Johnson County Extension Office at 817-556-6370 and ask to speak to a master gardener.
