Favorite past winners of the ‘Star-Telegram’ Peeps diorama contest
It was, indeed, a marshmallow world in the springtime.
In 2007, the Life & Arts section launched a Peeps diorama contest in time for Easter. We got 50 entries from around Tarrant County — from folks young and old, families and single entrants, all out to prove they could make the sweetest things out of the stretchy, sugary candy. Our first winner was, appropriately, a sports-themed creation called “U.S. Opeep,” and its family of creators took home toothbrushes as prizes.
Since then, winning dioramas have included a tribute to pianist Van Cliburn, glimpses of Fort Worth events like the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, re-enactments of the battle of the Alamo and the London Olympics, and scenes from the movies Up, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Wizard of Oz.
This year, we mallowed out a little and took a contest hiatus. But don’t worry, peeps: We’re using the power-rest to peek back at some of our favorite Peeps dioramas from the past nine years.
