Mr. Modem: Recover contacts from your old Hotmail account

I had Hotmail, which changed to Outlook.com and all my Contacts were lost. I have called Microsoft for help, but they don’t care. They have done absolutely nothing to help me. Is there any way I can get my Contacts back?

Gosh, Microsoft wasn’t being responsive to your phone calls? How unusual. I sure miss the old days, back when I had Bill Gates on speed dial. He would answer the phone and I’d say, “Is Ali Gator there?” Oh, how we would laugh. But I digress...

I can’t promise the following will work, but it has worked for some other individuals who had a similar unpleasant experience: First, log into your Outlook.com account and click the drop-down arrow next to Outlook in the upper left-hand corner. You will see options to Choose Outlook.com, People, Calendar or SkyDrive. Select People.

Click the drop-down arrow next to Manage at the top of the page and select Restore Deleted Contacts. If there are deleted contacts that Outlook can restore, you will be able to choose to restore all of them or select the individual contacts you wish to restore. After making your selection, choose Restore. If the cybergods are smiling upon you, your selected contact(s) will reappear in your Contact list.

I notice some programs when I open them, they start out in full screen, but when I click the button to make it return to normal size, it refuses to shrink. The button changes from the double squares to a single square, but the window size doesn’t budge. Is there anything I can do to get the window back to normal size short of restarting my computer?

Under normal circumstances, clicking the Maximize button in the upper right-hand corner will display a window full screen; click it again and it should revert to its previous or “normal” size. A problem arises with some programs that use full screen for normal size or display the window as it last appeared, prior to being closed. Either way, when you click the little button, nothing happens on screen.

When the window is in a “normal” state (the Maximize button showing one square), grab the lower right-hand corner of the window with your mouse pointer and drag it inward. Your window will resize, the sun will shine, birds will sing and all will be right with the world once again. Ahhhhhh...

When you arrive at the site you will notice that river water is flowing and that there are markers floating like buoys. Click each marker to view an interesting, educational river fact about what that marker is . . . well, marking. After you have examined all the markers, scroll down and start to read the article. As you read, you will encounter photos of the river with even more markers offering additional information.

This is arguably (I suppose among poets) the Web’s largest rhyme repository and search engine. Need I say more? The word “Rhyme” appears on the home page as an example of how your search results will appear. Simply type in a word you want to find rhymes for and click the Search button at the top of the page.
