Top 10 picks for restaurants serving Thanksgiving menus in DFW
Let’s say you’d rather skip the idea of having Thanksgiving at home altogether. After all, you’d still have to do the dishes, even if you got a big takeout meal.
Here are 10 places that are open for Thanksgiving — and it’s a good idea to make those reservations now.
Arlington Steak House: Entrees include turkey and dressing, honey-baked ham, or, if you’re feeling more Texan than traditional, chicken-fried steak and chicken-fried chicken (steaks are also available, but most will cost you more). Dessert options are more varied than at most restaurants. $13.95. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. 1724 W. Division St., 817-275-7881, http://www.thearlingtonsteakhouse.com.
Buffalo West: The far west Fort Worth restaurant is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving, and while you can get a traditional Thanksgiving dinner ($28), you can also spring for a whole Maine lobster dinner ($45) or go with a couple of beef-centric dinner options. 7101 Camp Bowie Blvd. West, Fort Worth, 817-732-2370, www.buffalowestfw.com.
Buttons Restaurant: Keith Hicks’ cool comfort-food restaurant will do a Thanksgiving brunch. It’ll feature “an assortment of breakfast items and traditional Thanksgiving fare.” As long as it serves Buttons’ chicken and waffles, we’re down with it. $24 for adults/$10 for kids. 10 a.m.-3 p .m. Nov. 26, 4701 West Freeway, Fort Worth, 817-735-4900, http://www.buttonsrestaurants.com.
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse: A $49 Thanksgiving menu — practically a steal at Del Frisco’s —features an appetizer (choice of butternut squash soup or “holiday salad”), slow-roasted turkey breast with sweet onion apple-sausage stuffing and sides, and dessert (pumpkin cheesecake or pecan pie a la mode). Noon-8 p.m. Nov. 26, 812 Main St., Fort Worth, 817-877-3999, delfriscos.com/steakhouse/fort-worth.
Humperdinks: You might think burgers and sandwiches when you think of this place, but it does a pretty good Thanksgiving blowout, with turkey and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc. Open 10 a.m.-2 a.m. Nov. 26, 700 Six Flags Drive, Arlington, 817-640-8553, http://www.humperdinks.com. (Dallas and Addison locations also will be open Thanksgiving).
Knife Dallas: Sure, bad-boy Dallas chef John Tesar’s “modern steakhouse” will serve turkey on Turkey Day, but this is Knife we’re talking about — there’s also a 44 Farms filet mignon and a dry-aged, bone-in 28-ounce rib-eye, as well as a king salmon entree. Plus some imaginative first-course items and some great-sounding desserts. 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 26, $75 (additional charge for filet mignon and rib-eye). 5300 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas (in the Highland Dallas hotel), 214-443-9339, www.knifedallas.com.
Restaurant 506 at the Sanford House: The upscale Arlington restaurant will serve a three-course prix fixe menu; non-turkey entree options include steelhead salmon or a veal T-bone. Children’s menu available. $49 adults/$14.95 children. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 26, 506 N. Center St., Arlington, 817-385-9193, www.restaurant506.com.
Riverwalk Cantina at the Gaylord Texan: If the weather’s pleasant (and your pockets are a little deep), consider brunch at this Tex-Mex spot that models itself after the San Antonio River Walk. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 26, $57 adults/$27 children ages 5-12, free for 4 and under. 1501 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine, 817-778-2215. Reservations via opentable.com.
Silver Fox: The entrees here not only include slow-roasted turkey (with grandma’s gravy!), but also chateaubriand with bordelaise sauce, and Atlantic salmon. Appetizers, desserts, coffee and iced tea included, $46.95; $16.95 for kids under 12. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 26, 1651 S. University Drive, Fort Worth, 817-332-9060; also 1235 William D. Tate, Grapevine, 817-329-6995, www.silverfoxcafe.com.
Simply Fondue: Not where your head usually goes when you think “Thanksgiving,” we’ll bet, but you’ll be able to get Cajun turkey, brown-sugar spiral ham bites, roasted garlic chicken and, of course, fondues — including a pecan pie fondue, which intrigues us deeply. $46 adults/$20 children 15 and under. Reservations required. 111 W. Fourth St., Fort Worth, 817-348-0633, www.simplyfonduefortworth.com.
