3-Legged Bear Makes Surprise Appearance as Guest No One Invited at Asheville Wedding
If you've ever planned a wedding, you know how important it is for your guests to RSVP. An accurate guest list can make or break the big day because no one wants to run out of food or have their seating arrangement thrown off when a surprise guest arrives.
But in this case, no one seemed to mind a very unexpected visitor who showed up as a couple was celebrating their marriage in Asheville, North Carolina. And perhaps that's because this uninvited guest wasn't one most people regularly see, and sometimes never at all.
In a video captured by a local catering company, a black bear casually strolled in like he was supposed to be there all along, much to the surprise of attending guests and vendors. And not just any black bear - a 3-legged one.

Thankfully, everyone remained calm, gave him the space he deserved, and he continued on his way. Little Paws, Big Heart - Moderno Paw
The business posted the video on its social media accounts and described what a rare and amazing sight it was. Shared by user @mikasaavl, the giant bear starts off standing in a field near a yard game, just taking it all in. Within a few seconds, he pops up on his hind legs, seemingly to get a better view of the place. Once satisfied, the bear casually sits down, "as if he had the best seat in the house," according to the caption.
Despite the initial surprise, everyone at the event remained calm and gave this guy plenty of space until he eventually wandered away. It's truly a remarkable thing to watch, especially knowing that this unexpected guest was comfortable enough to stop by and take in the scene around him. While he may not have been on the official guest list, he certainly gave everyone a wedding story they won't forget.
Why Do Black Bears Stand on Their Hind Legs?
An average black bear can be up to 6 feet tall and weigh up to 650 pounds. Due to their large size, seeing one standing upright can be quite intimidating, although this stance is often misinterpreted.
According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, the reason for a bear to rise to its hind legs is usually quite straightforward - to get a better view, investigate unfamiliar surroundings, or pick up distinctive scents. It does not indicate that the bear is preparing for an attack or showing aggression. However, as with any wild animal sighting, people should still give bears plenty of space and always act calmly and cautiously in their presence.
Encounters like this are rare reminders that wildlife can sometimes appear in the most unexpected places. While the 3-legged bear was a remarkable addition to this Asheville wedding, his calm behavior was a good reminder always to respect wild animals and give them the space they need.
