Places to go: Garden classes and nature-friendly activities in DFW

▪ Take a bus tour of the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday. Visit the prairie dog town, lotus marsh and more. $10, registration required. At 1:30 and 3 p.m. Sunday, kids can learn to fold a paper jumping frog during a program on frog species. The program is free with admission ($2-$5).

▪ Learn about chile peppers and how to grow them at a meeting of the Organic Garden Club of Fort Worth. It’s at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Redbud Hall at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center, 3220 Botanic Gardens Blvd. For more information, call Esther at 817-263-9322 or visit www.ogcfw.webs.com.

▪ At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, take an evening stroll with a naturalist. Bring water and bug spray. At 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, bring your preschooler to Discovery Club and learn about trees and leaves. The program is for ages 3-5. Both activities are $10 each, registration required.

▪ Get your gardening questions answered with a call to the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association help desk, 817-884-1944. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

▪ Johnson County Master Gardeners also answer gardening questions and give advice 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays. Call the Johnson County Extension Office at 817-556-6370 and ask to speak to a master gardener.
