Laredo man gets 25 years in child sexual assault case
May 13-A Laredo man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Wednesday after a jury found him guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Judge Oscar J. Hale Jr. sentenced Victor San Miguel Jr. after a jury convicted him May 6 following a three-day trial in the 49th District Court.
San Miguel was accused of sexually assaulting a girl younger than 14 in a case dating back to 2013, according to court records.
A Webb County grand jury indicted San Miguel in May 2024 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison under Texas law.
Jail records show he was initially booked into Webb County Jail on May 19, 2024, after he was served with an indictment warrant. He was released the same day on a $75,000 bond.
San Miguel pleaded not guilty July 25, 2025, during a trial status hearing in the 49th District Court after waiving a formal reading of the indictment and requesting a jury trial, court records show.
He maintained that plea through jury selection and trial before being convicted by the jury and sentenced to serve time in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
