Where to find Spurs car flags in San Antonio as playoff demand surges
May 6-For those on the hunt for a Spurs car flag, we wish you luck. We also know where you might get lucky.
The window accessory has been a hot item ever since the Silver and Black punched their ticket to the postseason. Now with the team in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, those mobile displays of affection are only getting hotter and harder to find.
But at least one legacy business in San Antonio knows the score when it comes to scoring your own car flag.
"It represents no matter where you go," said Steve Medellin, store manager at Dixie Flag & Banner Company, which regularly sells, or more like, sells out of Spurs car flags. "If you're going to work, going home, going to school, going to a party, you've got representation of the Spurs."
Dixie's latest batch of Spurs car flags should be in by Friday, Medellin said, though they may flutter in sooner. The flags come in several colorful styles and retail for $20. Customers can order them in person or call 210-227-5039.
Medellin said car flag sales have been steady throughout the Spurs' season, but have spiked in recent weeks as more fans go honking after another Spurs win.
The East Side shop at 1930 N. Interstate 35 typically carries several official Spurs flags of the auto and home variety. While the larger 3x5-foot house flags are in good supply, the car flags fly off the shelves faster than a Stephon Castle crossover.
Finding Spurs car flags through other official channels may be tough, but not impossible.
The Official Spurs Fan Shop at Frost Bank Center had them as recently as Monday's home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, so the Spurs' home court store is worth a visit. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and during home games. The shop is located at 1 Frost Bank Center Drive at the south end of the arena, 210-444-5555.
The other Spurs Fan Shop is at The Rock at La Cantera, 1 Spurs Way. Its hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 210-444-5984.
You might also have luck at the Official Spurs Fan Shop Pop-Up at 333 W. Commerce St. Its hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily, 210-444-5555.

As for the online hunt, we did find a retro "Spurs Fiesta" logo flag for $15.99 at Dick's Sporting Goods online and a more modern Spurs logo flag for $15.99 at SportClamps.com. That could change by the time you read this, but there's always eBay and Google to continue the hunt.
Spurs car flags go back to at least the late 1990s and the franchise's first title, with Dixie again leading the charge.
In a June 14, 1999, Express-News report, a Dixie rep noted the company was so swamped with orders from businesses and individuals it had a 15-page, 600-order waiting list for "Go Spurs Go" banners.
