Man arrested after threatening to shoot grocery store worker, showing handgun in handbag

May 5-A man was arrested after threatening to shoot a grocery store employee and showing him a firearm inside a handbag, according to the Laredo Police Department.

Officers responded at about 5:57 p.m. May 1 to a suspicious person report at a grocery store in the 7800 block of McPherson Road.

A supervisor reported a man threatened to shoot an employee and showed him the gun inside the handbag, police said.

Fearing for his life, the employee prevented the suspect from taking the gun out of the handbag. A co-worker then took the employee to a warehouse area, where they called for help.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Maximiliano Gaona, according to police.

Jail records show Gaona was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

He was booked into Webb County Jail and remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon on a $70,000 bond, according to jail records.
