Walmart is renovating more of its San Antonio, Austin stores. Here's what's coming.
Walmart is continuing its quest to modernize its Texas stores as it goes after wealthier shoppers.
Throughout 2026, the Bentonville, Ark.-based company has plans to remodel 72 stores in Texas, including six in San Antonio and one in Austin.
The statewide remodels are part of the nation's largest retailer's ongoing efforts to attract more affluent customers and increase sales through a modernized in-store and digital shopping experience.
Walmart plans to upgrade its store layouts, technology and services, including free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ members, a new app experience to help customers navigate through stores and services at Walmart's Auto Care Center. It's also expanding its assortment of healthy foods and affordable on-trend items.

Over the past five years, Walmart has invested more than $2.5 billion to remodel stores throughout Texas. The retailer remodeled eight stores in San Antonio last year and 20 in the metro area throughout 2023 and 2024.
It operates about 50 Walmart, Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Neighborhood Market and Sam's Club stores in the San Antonio area, where it claims about 26.31% of the grocery market, according to industry publication Chain Store Guide, making it the second-largest grocer in the city.
The company's efforts to lure wealthier shoppers and invest in pickup and delivery operations have paid off in recent years across the U.S., allowing it to siphon customers from competitors and to increase sales of higher-margin items such as clothing.
Walmart reported revenue rose 4.7% to $713.2 billion for fiscal year 2026, which ended Jan. 31. Households making more than $100,000 annually made up a majority of its market share gains during the fourth quarter, newly appointed CEO John Furner told analysts in February.
