ICYMI: Fox 4’s Steve Noviello goes after woman suspected of stealing an identity — his own

Don’t mess with consumer reporters. Especially don’t mess with their credit-card info.

Steve Noviello, the longtime consumer reporter for KDFW/Channel 4, received a fraud alert from a credit-card provider, informing him that someone had tried to use his card to pay for a room at the Hilton Garden Inn in Plano.

So Noviello contacted Visa, then went to the motel to find out what was going on. After informing police, he confronted the woman suspected of stealing his credit-card info and shot the encounter on his iPhone, for a report that aired Monday night on Fox 4.

“Can you help other consumers by letting us know how you did this?,” Noviello asks the woman. “Did you use it online?”

“I actually got it from someone else,” she says, and that’s about as responsive as she got, although she did apologize. Fox 4’s online report stresses that the woman has only been charged with a crime at this point and hasn’t been convicted.
