This week’s Fab or Flub product gives new meaning to the phrase “going green.”
Made by cult Australian brand Lipstick Queen, Frog Prince (available for $25 at Ulta) is a green lipstick that claims to magically transform into the perfect shade of rosebud pink upon application.
How so, you ask? By reacting to the natural pH of your lips and producing a custom shade of rosebud pink unique to the user. Enriched with ingredients like vitamin E and shea butter, the lipstick also promises to keep your lips super moisturized throughout the day.
The first time heard about Frog Prince, I was excited to get my hands on it. I’m a big fan of Dior Addict Lip Glow, which is also a lip product that adapts to users’ color chemistry. Unfortunately, as the popularity of the product has risen, so has the price.
While I have continued to purchase it, I have been keeping my eye out for a cheaper replacement that would, hopefully, give me the same results. After checking it out online, Lipstick Queen’s Frog Prince seemed that might be a great possible replacement.
First impression
True to its frog-inspired name, Lipstick Queen’s Frog Prince lipstick is emerald in color and looks like the kind of product you’d use if you were dressing up like Elphaba from the musical Wicked. Fortunately, I didn’t need magical powers to get this lipstick to change colors.
Swatching it on the back of my hand, the semi-sheer lipstick immediately turned a rosy color as it made contact with my skin.
It was neither greasy nor sticky; I was pleasantly surprised to find that Frog Prince’s formula is more like a balm than a lipstick. As someone who prefers tinted balms over glosses and lipsticks, this was an immediate plus.
Fab or flub?
Fab! Don’t let the green hue of Lipstick Queen’s Frog Prince intimidate you. This lipstick gives users a pretty, natural-looking pout, while also keeping your lips moisturized all day.
Perfect for everyday use, Frog Prince is a lightweight, semi-sheer lip color that goes on smoothly. And, depending on the level of color intensity you want, users can either opt for a single swipe for something more subtle or multiple swipes for a pout that pops.
Compared to Dior Addict Lip Glow, which leaves my lips with a bright, bubble-gum color, I found Frog Prince gave my lips a color that was somewhere between pink and red. The shade was flattering to my complexion, and I liked that the color did not transfer when I drank or wiped my mouth.
Overall, my experience with the Frog Prince lipstick was great.
