Fab or flub? Is Kiehl’s avocado eye cream a winner?

I love avocado. I love it in tacos and burgers. I smear it on sandwiches and have even used it to make chocolate truffles more healthful.

So, what better product to review for Fab or Flub? than one featuring my favorite green fruit as its main ingredient?

When I first heard about Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado last year, it immediately caught my interest. My affinity for avocados helped, but I was looking for an eye cream to incorporate into my beauty regimen.

As luck would have it, Kiehl’s recently sent me a sample. Can you say “karma”? As part of Kiehl’s seventh annual Limited Edition Label Art Series for Earth Day program, the eye cream has been reissued with two new lid designs (created by actresses Elizabeth Olsen and Maggie Q).

Sales from the cream — available for $47 on the Kiehl’s website — go toward a $50,000 donation to Recycle Across America.

For its part, the cream promises gentle moisturizing and a burst of hydration around the delicate eye area. For my first experience with avocado-based beauty treatments, this seemed a good place to start.

First impression

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, which is in a little pot, is (to no surprise) green and has a thick consistency.

For those wondering if it smells like avocado, the answer is no. In fact, the product doesn’t have much of a fragrance at all, and once absorbed, is totally undetectable to the nose.

To test it, I applied a small amount to my hand and found that it went on smoothly and quickly soaked into the skin without any evidence of greasy residue.

Fab or flub?

Fab! Turns out that avocado is good for more than making toast even more delicious.

After using the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado for a month, I’m happy to report positive results.

While I’m still young enough not to have any serious signs of aging around my eyes, I do deal with tired eyes and dark circles on days when I’m lacking a good night’s rest (and this happens more often than it should). Fortunately, using the Kiehl’s eye cream has shown some restorative powers that keep me from looking like an extra from The Walking Dead on days when I feel like it.

The product did a wonderful job of brightening up the area under my eyes and providing it with some much needed moisture. Over time, the product helped increase the quality of the skin under my eyes, making it both firmer and smoother than before.

The eye cream goes a long way, too, so I found that a dime-size drop was all that was needed to administer a little TLC to both eyes.

To allay any fears about the product getting into the eyes, I can tell you that I didn’t encounter any problems with this. While the eye cream can be used both day and night, I just used it at night — primarily because I have naturally oily eyelids and the cream seemed to increase this effect.

Overall, I enjoyed using this product and would recommend it to other avocado lovers and individuals seeking a good moisturizing eye cream.
